Traffic police in Phuket arrested a 20‑year‑old man after discovering methamphetamine and amphetamine pills during a checkpoint inspection at the Darasamut Underpass.
The Wichit Police told the Phuket Express that at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday (April 24th), they set up a traffic enforcement operation at the eastern entrance of the Darasamut Underpass on Chao Fa East Road. Officers stopped a motorcycle for violating tunnel usage rules.
The rider, identified as Mr. Phuwanon, a resident of Kathu, was found carrying:
- Five methamphetamine tablets (yaba) in a clear plastic bag
- 2.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) in a resealable plastic pouch
- Ten empty resealable plastic bags commonly used for drug distribution
A urine test returned positive for methamphetamine use. Police seized the narcotics and paraphernalia as evidence and detained Mr. Phuwanon for further investigation.
He now faces charges of:
- Possession of Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine and crystal meth) without authorization
- Driving under the influence of illegal drugs
The suspect and evidence were transferred to Wichit Police Station for legal proceedings.
