Police in Patong have arrested a French man accused of violently assaulting a Thai national during the Songkran festival earlier this month.
The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that the confrontation took place at the entrance of Malin Plaza Market, where a dispute escalated into violence. The victim, identified as Mr. Veerasak, sustained serious injuries and later filed a complaint with investigators at Patong Police Station.
Following the attack, the foreign suspect fled the scene, causing police investigators to collect witness statements and forensic evidence. Authorities then sought and obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court.
On April 21st, officers successfully apprehended the suspect under the court-issued warrant. He now faces charges of “assault causing bodily harm”, a criminal offense under Thai law.
The suspect has been transferred to Patong Police Station for formal interrogation and legal proceedings. Police stated that the arrest demonstrates their commitment to ensuring public safety during major festivals, where large crowds and alcohol consumption often heighten risks of violent incidents.
