While most residents were celebrating Songkran with water splashing festivities, police in Chalong were busy splashing arrest warrants. Officers apprehended a company driver accused of stealing fuel worth more than 1.3 million baht.
The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that the case began on March 24th, when investigators at Chalong Police Station received a complaint from a local company. The firm alleged that one of its truck drivers had siphoned off company fuel and sold it in Surat Thani, causing significant financial losses.
After gathering evidence, police sought and obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court for Mr. Phakinai, 39, on charges of “theft from an employer at night, using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or transport stolen property.”
The suspect initially fled to another province, making the pursuit difficult. However, investigators continued tracking his movements and discovered that he had returned to his hometown in Chalong during the Songkran holiday.
On April 14th, police executed the warrant and arrested him. During questioning, the suspect confessed to stealing and reselling the fuel. He was then handed over to investigators for prosecution under Thai law.
