A local van driver in Patong has spoken out after a tense confrontation with foreign tourists during the Songkran festival, describing how he struggled to keep his composure as water was repeatedly sprayed into his face and vehicle.
Sathit, a 52-year-old driver, explained the incident that occurred around 4 p.m. near the Khai Muk roundabout in front of a convenience store. He had just finished dropping off passengers when he encountered a large group of foreigners blocking the road while celebrating.
“I honked to ask for a way through, but they became upset, shouting, banging on the windows, opening the door, and spraying water directly at me,” he said. “I admit I lost my temper. I even picked up my shoe to defend myself. But I thought, if I didn’t control my anger, I might end up behind bars.”
According to Sathit, the group continued to spray water aggressively, hitting his face and eyes. His van was also soaked, leaving the sound system damaged despite a thorough cleaning afterward.
He has since filed a formal complaint with Patong Police Station, urging authorities to take action against the group. “This kind of behavior is reckless and dangerous. Songkran should be fun, but not like this,” he added.
