Phuket has reported in total 23 road accidents with 19 injuires and four deaths on the fifth day (April 14th) of Songkran Festival’s intensive monitoring period, which runs from April 10 to 16, 2026.
On April 14th, the fifth day of the campaign, only two road accidents were recorded. Two men, one Thai and one German, were hospitalized with injuries, but no fatalities occurred.
Between April 10 and 14, officials documented
- 23 accidents (13 Phuket city/2 Thalang/8 Kathu district)
- 19 injuries (14 men, 5 women). Injured individuals included Thai nationals (9), Myanmar (3), Russia (2), UK (2), Turkey (1), France (1), and Germany (1).
- 4 fatalities — all Thai nationals (3 men, 1 woman).
The provincial safety committee stated that during the New Year holiday earlier this year, most casualties were among Myanmar migrant workers. In response, Phuket authorities adopted proactive measures ahead of Songkran, focusing on outreach in worker camps. Campaigns explained helmet use and discouraging drunk driving, with police and administrative officers leading the effort.
Officials noted that these targeted campaigns have significantly reduced accidents and fatalities among migrant workers during Songkran, showing the effectiveness of direct engagement with at-risk communities.
The Songkran statistics reflect a positive trend in Phuket’s road safety strategy, demonstrating that proactive, community-focused measures can reduce risks during Thailand’s most dangerous travel period.
