Phuket City Municipality has ‘requested’ all local administrative organizations and private operators across the province to temporarily halt the delivery of solid waste to the Phuket Provincial Waste Disposal Center between April 11–19, 2026, after a fire broke out at the landfill site.
Phuket City Municipality told the Phuket Express that the blaze began on April 11th at approximately 3:00 PM at the landfill within the provincial waste management facility. Officials classified the incident as a Level 2–3 emergency, requiring urgent intervention.
Firefighting teams from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, Wichit Municipality, and Rassada Municipality joined forces to contain the flames. Authorities report that the fire is now under control and confined to a limited area, but ongoing monitoring and preventive measures remain necessary to avoid reignition.
Compounding the situation, the waste incinerator’s holding area has reached maximum capacity, leaving the facility unable to accept additional waste from across the province. As a result, the municipality has issued a directive to suspend waste deliveries until conditions stabilize. If the situation improves before April 19th, the facility will resume normal operations earlier than scheduled.
Officials explained that the temporary suspension is critical to ensuring safety and preventing further fire hazards. The municipality expressed appreciation for the cooperation of local governments and private operators during this emergency period.
