The Phuket Road and Marine Accident Prevention and Reduction Operations Center has reported one death in the first-day accident report for the Songkran Festival’s intensive monitoring period, which runs from April 10 to 16, 2026.
The fatality involved a woman struck by a car while parked on the roadside in Pa Khlok, Thalang. Authorities identified key risk behaviors contributing to accidents, including failure to wear helmets, drunk driving, drowsy driving, and speeding.
Police reported 639 violations across ten major traffic offenses, with helmet non-compliance (166 cases) and drunk driving (31 cases) topping the list.
Additional directives included ensuring taxi and public transport drivers rest adequately, enforcing jet ski route compliance, requiring tourists to wear life jackets, and improving nighttime road lighting at high-risk locations.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to reducing casualties during the holiday period, when traffic and accident risks traditionally surge, by combining strict law enforcement with public awareness campaigns.
