Phuket Opens Safety Command Center for Songkran 2026, Focusing on “Don’t Drink and Drive”

Phuket, April 8, 2026

Authorities in Phuket have launched a special operations center to strengthen road and marine safety during the Songkran festival, sharing the campaign message “Don’t Drink and Drive” to protect both residents and tourists.

At a ceremony held at the Phuket Provincial Hall, Deputy Governor Teerapong Chuaychu presided over the opening of the Songkran 2026 Road and Marine Accident Prevention and Reduction Command Center. This brings together government agencies, private sector partners, volunteers, and community networks to coordinate safety measures during Thailand’s busiest holiday period.

Deputy Governor Teerapong noted that Songkran draws large crowds of visitors, leading to heavy traffic on both land and sea routes. He stressed that safety must be a shared responsibility, guided by the principle: “Drive safely, slow down, reduce accidents.”

  • On land, authorities have analyzed past accident data to identify high-risk zones. Measures include checkpoints, service stations, and patrols, with integrated support from local government, communities, and private operators.
  • At sea, agencies such as the Marine Department, Marine Police, and Tourist Assistance Centers are working together. The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization is providing rescue equipment and manpower to ensure rapid response in emergencies, boosting confidence among tourists.

The province is also rolling out continuous public campaigns. The Phuket Public Relations Office and partner networks are promoting the “Songkran: Don’t Drink and Drive” message, while educating local businesses and workers about safety practices. Affordable accident insurance packages are being publicized to extend protection for residents and visitors alike.

Officials explained that the safety drive is not only about preventing accidents but also about reinforcing Phuket’s reputation as a sustainable tourism destination. Rapid-response teams are on standby to address hazards immediately, and citizens are encouraged to report dangerous spots to relevant agencies.

“Phuket wishes everyone safe travels, good health, and a joyful Songkran,” Deputy Governor Teerapong said, urging the public to respect traffic laws and cooperate with safety measures throughout the festival.
