Phuket –
Phuket International Airport has announced heightened security and operational readiness to accommodate the surge of travelers during Thailand’s Songkran festival, taking place April 10–15. Airport Director Monchai Tahnod explained that passenger safety remains the top priority, with reinforced emergency protocols and integrated cooperation among local law enforcement agencies.
Passenger and Flight Forecasts
- Flights: Approximately 1,800 flights are expected over the six-day period, averaging 302 per day. This marks a slight decrease from last year’s daily average of 312.
- Passengers: Around 291,000 travelers are projected, down from 308,000 during the same period in 2025.
The modest drop in traffic is attributed to instability in the Middle East and rising oil prices, which have led to some flight cancellations. Seasonal shifts also play a role, as the transition from the winter to summer travel season reduces demand from cold-weather tourists in the northern hemisphere.
Despite these challenges, Phuket continues to draw large numbers of visitors from Russia, China, and India. These three markets remain the backbone of Phuket’s tourism sector and are expected to sustain momentum throughout the Songkran holiday.
