Now for the update:
On April 6th, 2026, Adcha Bua-chan, Director of the Phuket Provincial Transport Office, clarified that metered taxis continue to operate as usual and are well-prepared to serve both locals and tourists.
Taxi System Overview
- Total fleet: 1,798 metered taxis
- Alternative energy vehicles: Over 1,700 taxis powered by electricity (EV) or LPG
- Conventional fuel vehicles: Only about 70 taxis, representing just 3.9% of the fleet
Monitoring at key locations, including Phuket Town, Patong, and Phuket International Airport, confirmed that taxis are available in sufficient numbers, ensuring smooth travel without disruption to public transport services.
The shift toward alternative energy vehicles shows Phuket’s adaptation to fluctuating fuel prices while strengthening the reliability of its transport system. This transition not only reduces environmental impact but also enhances service stability for passengers.
Authorities explained that Phuket remains fully prepared to welcome tourists and sustain its tourism-driven economy. Relevant agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to maintain public confidence and ensure convenience for all travelers.
