Phuket Kite Festival is Underway

Phuket –

The skies above Karon Beach came alive with color and motion as the “Phuket Kite Festival 2026” officially opened, transforming the coastline into a fantastic canvas of soaring artistry. Organized by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, the event drew crowds of both Thai and international visitors eager to witness the spectacle of kites from around the world.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, alongside local leaders and international guests, including Ms. Ke Yan, Deputy Mayor of Yangjiang City, China. Their presence showed the festival’s ambition to elevate Phuket as a hub for cultural exchange and creative tourism.

As the ceremony began, the sky was filled with an array of kites, with traditional Thai designs, whimsical fantasy creations, and massive international showpieces from countries such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Poland. Together, they formed a breathtaking aerial display that celebrated both Thai heritage and global artistry.

Mr. Rewat explained that the festival’s mission is to preserve and promote Thailand’s kite-making traditions while positioning Phuket as a destination for creative tourism. “We want Phuket Kite Festival to become a signature event that attracts visitors worldwide, blending the charm of Thai kites with international innovation, and boosting the local economy,” he said.

Beyond the kite shows, the festival offered a rich program of activities:

  • Workshops on kite-making and painting for children and families.
  • Environmental initiatives showing sustainable creativity.
  • Creative Market featuring local crafts and community products.
  • Food zones, including craft coffee stalls, renowned restaurants, and beachfront food trucks.

The excitement continued into the evening with live performances from popular Thai artists such as Musketeers, OG-ANIC, LAZYLOXY, and ETC., ensuring the festival was as lively on the ground as it was in the sky.

Running from April 3–5, 2026, the “Phuket Kite Festival” is a showcase of Phuket’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and creative spirit. By blending tradition with innovation, the festival strengthens Phuket’s image as a world-class tourism destination and injects fresh energy into the local economy.

Visitors are invited to experience the magic of the skies at Karon Beach and be part of this colorful journey where Thai wisdom meets international imagination.
