Major Drug Bust in Phuket With 32,000 Meth Pills Seized

Phuket—

Provincial authorities in Phuket have announced the successful seizure of a large quantity of narcotics following a coordinated operation targeting drug trafficking in the island province.

Provincial Chief Officer Rungreung Thimabutr told the Phuket Express that the operation stemmed from intelligence gathered on March 31st, when Phuket’s special operations unit received information from Thalang district officials about a planned drug delivery in Kathu district.

Undercover agents arranged a purchase via the messaging application Line, negotiating for 10,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at 120,000 baht.

Phuket Governor Nirat Phongsitthithavorn ordered a joint task force comprising officers from the provincial, Thalang, and Kathu administrations to pursue the case. The team, led by Thimabutr, coordinated a sting operation to intercept the suspect.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., the suspect, identified only as Mr. A, contacted undercover agents and arranged to deliver the drugs near Bang Thong School in Kathu. When officers arrived, they conducted a search with the suspect’s consent.

Authorities discovered:
• 32,000 methamphetamine pills (16 bundles of 2,000 each)
• 56.35 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice)
The suspect was immediately detained and informed of multiple charges, including:
• Possession and attempted distribution of methamphetamine with intent to sell
• Illegal consumption of methamphetamine
• Driving under the influence of narcotics

Additional evidence seized included a digital scale, a Honda PCX motorcycle, a mobile phone, and cash. The suspect and confiscated items were transferred to Kathu Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Officials explained that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking networks in Phuket and prevent the spread of narcotics among local communities.
