Phuket Tightens Security at Freedom Beach with Volunteer Patrols

Phuket –

Phuket authorities have stepped up security measures at Freedom Beach, deploying volunteer defense forces to maintain order and safeguard the area following complaints related to forest reserve land use.

Our previous story:

More than 100 officers from multiple agencies joined forces to clear encroachment and illegal activities at Freedom Beach, a scenic coastal area within the Nak Kerd Mountain National Reserved Forest in Karon.

On March 19th, 2026, five members of the Special Operations Unit (Team 1) from the Phuket Volunteer Defense Corps carried out patrol duties under Order No. 24/2569. Their mission was to ensure public safety within the Naka Kerd National Forest Reserve, which encompasses Freedom Beach in the Karon Subdistrict,

The patrols were conducted between 5:00 p.m. and midnight, with officers monitoring the area closely to deter illegal activities and reassure both residents and tourists. According to Unit Leader Maj. Komson Thongkaew, the operation proceeded smoothly and achieved its objectives, with no irregular incidents reported. He explained that vigilance in the area will continue.

Phuket officials are also coordinating with administrative authorities, forestry officers, and police to investigate land use and property rights issues at Freedom Beach. The goal is to ensure transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the law.

In addition to patrols, authorities have reinforced surveillance measures to prevent encroachment and unlawful exploitation of the forest reserve. These efforts aim to protect shared natural resources while strengthening public confidence in the safety and integrity of one of Phuket’s most renowned beaches.
