Phuket –
Phuket’s historic Old Town has come alive with fresh energy as the installation of the striking “Yak Lanka” sculpture at the iconic Chartered Bank intersection draws crowds of visitors.
The towering artwork has quickly become a must-see landmark, with both Thai and international tourists flocking to snap photos and share their experiences online.
The installation is part of the promotional campaign for “LANKA SONGKRAN – The Gate Opens: Rave on the Beach”, an international electronic music festival scheduled for April. The event wants to position Phuket not only as a world-class tourist destination but also as a Festival City, showcasing Thailand’s creative industries and soft power on the global stage.

Tourists have been captivated by the sculpture’s design, which blends contemporary imagination with inspiration from Thai literature. This creative fusion shows how cultural heritage can be reinterpreted to deliver new experiences, reinforcing Phuket’s identity as a hub where history, art, and modern entertainment intersect.
Local authorities and private sector representatives have jointly endorsed the festival, stating its role in elevating Phuket as a center for international events. This is part of Thailand’s broader tourism development strategy, which focuses on quality, sustainability, and cultural richness.

Beyond its cultural significance, the festival is expected to generate widespread economic benefits. Hotels, restaurants, transport services, and local businesses anticipate a surge in demand, while extended tourist stays promise to spread revenue across surrounding communities.
By using Old Town as a stage for creative promotion, organizers are also reinforcing Phuket’s unique character, a city that seamlessly combines historical depth, cultural vibrancy, and contemporary lifestyle.

The “LANKA SONGKRAN – The Gate Opens: Rave on the Beach” festival will take place from April 12–14, 2026, at Koh Si Rae Lanka Beach, off Si Rae Island in Rassada, Phuket. With its mix of music, culture, and creativity, the event is set to further strengthen Phuket’s reputation as a global destination for tourism, festivals, and the creative economy.
