Phuket Honors Heroic Sisters with Spectacular Light and Sound Show

Phuket –

Phuket launched its annual historical extravaganza with grandeur as the province paid tribute to two legendary heroines, Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, through a dazzling light and sound performance at the Thalang Victory Monument (Ban Reang), Thalang.

The opening ceremony was presided over by General Boonsin Padklang, Advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army and former Commander of the 2nd Army Region.

Phuket Governor Nirun Phongsitthithavorn delivered a welcome address, while Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) President Rewat Areerob presented the event report. The ceremony drew a large crowd of officials, community leaders, and residents, reflecting the deep reverence for the province’s historical legacy.

General Boonsin emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of ancestors who defended the land, noting his own experience in commanding Thai–Cambodian border conflicts. He urged younger generations to honor the courage of past warriors who safeguarded Phuket’s future.

The PAO explained the event’s dual purpose: preserving the memory of the heroic sisters while promoting Phuket as a cultural tourism destination. By showcasing the province’s rich heritage, the festival is to instill pride among locals and attract international visitors, boosting the local economy.

This year’s performance, themed “Love the Nation, Defend the Land – The Heroines of Thalang”, combined large-scale stage sets, advanced lighting and sound technology, and a cast of hundreds. The production vividly reenacted the sisters’ legendary defense of Thalang against Burmese invaders in the late 18th century, blending historical drama with traditional arts to create a breathtaking spectacle.

Beyond the stage, the festival also featured a cultural fair and community activities, offering visitors a chance to experience Phuket’s traditions firsthand.

The performances run from March 13–16, 2026, inviting both locals and tourists to witness the epic retelling of Thalang’s history and celebrate the enduring spirit of its heroines.
