Police Tighten Patrols After Nude Beach Incident at Rawai

Phuket —

Tourist Police in Phuket have stepped up patrols and enforcement measures following reports on social media of a tourist swimming nude at a public beach in Rawai.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that at 1:00 p.m. they confirmed the incident after conducting an on-site inspection. The case occurred at a relatively secluded 100-meter stretch of beach in Rawai Subdistrict, which requires a short walk of about 200 meters from the main road. Around 20 tourists were present at the time.

Pol. Lt. Col. Ekachai Siri, Chief of Tourist Police Station 1, ordered patrol units to verify the situation and coordinate with Rawai Municipality. In line with the provincial governor’s directive, authorities will intensify beach patrols and install multilingual signage outlining rules and prohibitions for public spaces to ensure visitors are clearly informed.

Officers also issued warnings and explained relevant laws to tourists, emphasizing proper conduct in public areas. To prevent similar incidents, the Tourist Police are working with local municipalities, hotels, tour operators, and foreign embassies to disseminate information on Thailand’s public decency laws and cultural norms.

This proactive approach highlights Phuket’s effort to balance law enforcement with hospitality, ensuring that tourists enjoy the island’s natural beauty while respecting local customs and regulations.
