Phuket Journalists’ Association Marks National Mass Media Day

Phuket –
The Phuket Journalists’ Association celebrated National Mass Media Day, also known as Journalists’ Day, with a grand ceremony and the introduction of its new executive committee led by Ms. Amnuay Thongsom, the newly elected President.

The event, held in Phuket, was presided over by Mr. Suwit Phansengiam, Deputy Governor of Phuket, and drew distinguished guests from government agencies, private organizations, advisory boards, and association members.

A highlight of the program was the panel discussion titled “Media Power, City Power: Driving Phuket Toward Sustainable Tourism.” Key speakers included Mr. Rangsiman Kingkaew, President of the Phuket Tourism Industry Council; Mr. Phumtit Raktaengam, President of the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation; and Mr. Narong Promchit, Marketing Representative of the Southern Office of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

The ceremony also featured a symbolic handover of leadership, as outgoing President Ms. Salinee Prab formally transferred responsibilities to Ms. Amnuay Thongsom.

In her remarks, Ms. Amnuay emphasized the importance of March 5 as a day honoring journalists nationwide, underscoring their vital role in delivering accurate and timely information to the public. She noted that the Phuket Journalists’ Association has grown from its origins as the Phuket Reporters’ Club into a formal association with 84 members, serving as a hub for collaboration and strengthening local media.

Deputy Governor Suwit Phansengiam addressed the gathering, stressing the need for accuracy and ethical responsibility in an era dominated by fast-moving social media. He urged journalists to balance speed with fact-checking, ensuring that the profession remains a trusted voice for the community.

The celebrations began on March 4 with a religious merit-making ceremony at the association’s headquarters, reflecting the cultural and spiritual traditions that continue to shape Phuket’s civic life.
