Fuel Frenzy in Phuket!!

Phuket

Petrol stations across Phuket witnessed chaotic scenes this morning as residents rushed to fill their tanks amid concerns over fuel shortages.

By dawn, long lines of vehicles had already formed outside several stations, with motorists waiting even before opening hours. As stations began operating, forecourts quickly filled to capacity, and queues stretched along nearby roads.

The rush follows reports of intermittent shortages of Gasohol 95 and recent price hikes at major brands, which have heightened public anxiety. Officials from the Phuket Provincial Commerce Office confirmed yesterday that while some stations experienced temporary supply gaps, consumer goods remained stable and sufficient.

Today’s surge, however, shows the growing pressure on local fuel distribution and the urgency of continued monitoring. Authorities are expected to maintain close oversight to ensure fair pricing and prevent panic buying.

The Phuket Provincial Commerce Office has moved quickly to assess the local fuel supply situation after reports of temporary shortages at certain stations.

During an inspection, officials found that Caltex’s Kan Tawee Service Station (Branch 2) in Mueang District had run out of Gasohol 95. The shortage was attributed to unusually high consumer demand over the holiday period, combined with a pause in tanker deliveries.

Fuel Price Adjustments

  • Shell stations: Gasohol and E20 increased by 1.50 baht per liter; diesel rose by 4.20 baht.
  • Caltex stations: Gasohol and E20 increased by 0.90 baht per liter; diesel rose by 1.80 baht.
  • Other stations: Prices remained unchanged.

Despite the fuel concerns, essential consumer goods remain available in sufficient quantities. Officials reported no signs of panic buying or stockpiling, and retail prices have stayed stable.

Commerce officers also checked compliance with pricing regulations. Businesses were found to be clearly displaying product and service prices in line with legal requirements. To reinforce consumer confidence, officials distributed copies of the Central Committee on Prices of Goods and Services Announcement No. 68 (2025), which outlines mandatory price display standards.

Authorities explained that monitoring will continue to ensure fair trade practices and to prevent consumer disruption. The proactive measures aim to reassure residents and visitors that both fuel and essential goods remain under close supervision.
