Phuket –
Police officers from Chalong Police Station raided a cannabis shop in Chalong after discovering it was operating without a valid license.
The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that the operation followed coordination with the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, which had requested police assistance in cracking down on shops illegally selling controlled herbal products, specifically cannabis flowers. Authorities noted that many such establishments in Phuket have failed to renew their licenses despite legal requirements.
During the inspection, investigators found a cannabis shop located in Soi Sukiyaki, Chao Fa East Road. A Thai woman identified herself as the shop owner. Officers requested to see her license, but upon review, discovered that the permit had expired and had not been renewed.
Police also found an official notice from the Provincial Public Health Office stating that once a license expires, the sale, export, or processing of controlled herbs such as cannabis flowers is strictly prohibited.
The shop owner was formally charged with selling controlled herbs (cannabis flowers) without authorization, in violation of the Thai Traditional Medicine Knowledge Protection and Promotion Act, B.E. 2542 (1999). Officers seized cannabis flowers and related equipment as evidence.
