In a major incident that placed the lives of countless students in grave danger, an 17-year-old assailant entered Phatong Prathan Khiriwat School armed with a firearm. Amid the chaos, School Director (Principal) Sasiphat Sinsamosorn displayed extraordinary courage and the true spirit of a teacher.
When faced with the crisis, Director Sasiphat made the selfless decision to confront the gunman directly. In an act of ultimate sacrifice, she offered herself as a hostage in exchange for the safety of her students and fellow teachers. Her bravery allowed others to escape unharmed, showing her unwavering dedication to protecting the school community.
Director Sasiphat’s actions have been hailed as a profound example of leadership and devotion. By putting herself in harm’s way, she embodied the highest ideals of the teaching profession, placing the welfare of her students above her own life.
Authorities are now reviewing the circumstances of the attack and reinforcing security measures in schools across the region. Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, students, and officials, honoring Director Sasiphat’s sacrifice as a lasting symbol of courage and compassion.
The Ministry of Education announced that a royal bathing ceremony for the late director will be held today at 4:30 p.m., with Education Minister Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat presiding. The ministry expressed its deepest condolences and pledged full support for the bereaved family, injured staff, and traumatized students.
Deputy Prime Minister Capt. Thammanat Prompao, who oversees the Ministry of Education, has directed relevant agencies to expedite consideration of special benefits. These include:
• Extraordinary salary promotion for her family – up to seven steps, equivalent to a 35% increase.
• Royal decoration – to honor the director’s sacrifice and service.
According to ministry spokesperson Lt. Thanun Wongjinda, the proposal will be submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office under regulations governing exceptional merit awards.
The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has been tasked with:
• Coordinating with the Ministry of Public Health to ensure medical care for the other injured.
• Deploying multidisciplinary psychological support teams to assist teachers and students.
• Reviewing and tightening school safety protocols nationwide to prevent similar tragedies.
Minister Narumon stated that beyond honoring the fallen director, the ministry’s priority is to provide comprehensive welfare and psychological healing for the school community.
