Phuket –
Authorities at Phuket International Airport arrested a French national after he accidentally dropped packets of cocaine at a security checkpoint, sparking an investigation that uncovered additional narcotics in his city apartment.
The Sakhu Police told the Phuket Express that they were alerted by airport security officers who discovered ten zip-lock bags containing white powder, later confirmed to be cocaine, weighing a total of 7.55 grams. CCTV footage revealed the suspect, identified later only as Mr. Najib, dropping the drugs from his trousers.
During questioning, the suspect admitted the narcotics were his. He later led police to his apartment in Wichit subdistrict, Mueang Phuket, where officers uncovered further illegal substances. The search yielded 13 bags of pink powder identified as ecstasy (6.79 grams) and nine bags containing 44 pink ecstasy tablets.
Investigators charged the suspect with possession and intent to distribute Category 2 narcotics (cocaine), possession and intent to distribute Category 1 narcotics (ecstasy), and illegal consumption of methamphetamine and ketamine. He was taken into custody for prosecution under Thai law.
