Phuket-
Two French tourists have been fined for committing an indecent act aboard a tuk-tuk in Patong, Phuket, after a video of the incident sparked outrage online and raised concerns about the island’s image as a global tourist destination.
Local media first reported the case on January 30th, describing how the pair engaged in sexual activity while riding a tuk-tuk over Patong Hill, seemingly indifferent to passing motorists. The footage quickly circulated on social media, drawing sharp criticism from residents and netizens who condemned the behavior as disrespectful and damaging to Phuket’s reputation.
The Kathu Police told the Phuket Express that they worked with Phuket Tourist Police, launching an investigation after identifying the tuk-tuk involved. Officers traced the tourists to hotels in Rassada and Cherng Talay, where they were taken into custody on January 31.
Both individuals were charged under Thai law with “committing an act of public indecency by exposing the body or engaging in obscene behavior in public.” They were each fined 5,000 baht before being handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings.
