Phuket –
Police have released their annual performance report for 2025, showing major strides in public safety through advanced surveillance technology and tighter enforcement of laws affecting foreign residents and vehicle rental operators.

Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum announced that the force has completed the installation and upgrade of 503 CCTV cameras across the island. The system includes fixed-angle units, rotating cameras, live-stream devices, and communication-linked cameras, ensuring comprehensive coverage of high-risk areas. This initiative forms the backbone of the “Phuket Eyes” project, designed to strengthen crime prevention and enhance public confidence.

Looking ahead, authorities plan to launch Phuket Eyes Phase 2, which will integrate artificial intelligence into the surveillance network. The upgraded system will feature facial recognition, attire and vehicle analysis, and database connectivity to track suspects and vehicles in real time. Private sector participation is also encouraged, with businesses invited to contribute cameras to the shared monitoring system. Current databases already contain information on more than 10,000 individuals.
Law enforcement against foreign nationals and rental businesses has been a key focus. Police reported action against over 4,400 rental operators, with fines issued to more than 3,700 cases and 1,700 vehicles seized for inspection. Authorities emphasized fairness by targeting both renters and operators, while also coordinating with the Revenue Department to ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Last year, Russian road users (motorbikes and cars) are most fined in breaking traffic Rules which were 11,855, following by Thais (2,745), Chinese (1,841), British (1,491), French (1,442), Indians (1,134) and Myanmar (825).
