PHUKET –
Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn has instructed all relevant agencies to improve coordination and strengthen surveillance and screening for the Nipah virus to protect public health and maintain confidence among residents and visitors.
Phuket International Airport, in coordination with the International Communicable Disease Control Checkpoint, has implemented passenger screening for travelers from West Bengal, India. One airline currently operates five flights per week on this route, with ongoing risk assessment and monitoring for each flight.
Public health measures have been reinforced across the province. These include more frequent cleaning in buildings and designated risk areas, as well as close coordination with international disease control checkpoints and public health authorities to ensure timely monitoring and response.
The governor emphasized that these preventive measures aim to reduce health risks and ensure Phuket remains a safe destination for residents and tourists.
