Suspect Arrested after Mobile Phone Snatched from Chinese Tourist in Chalong

Police in Chalong have successfully tracked down and arrested a man from Pattani who allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a Chinese tourist in Phuket.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that this month on January 9th, 2026, at approximately 10:47 a.m.they received a report that a Chinese visitor had been robbed of a smartphone in Soi Palai, Chalong.

The suspect, wearing a motorcycle helmet to conceal his face, fled the scene on a motorbike. Following an intensive investigation, police identified the suspect as Mr. Mos from Pattani.

After committing the crime, he reportedly fled back to his hometown in Pattani, southern Thailand. Investigators sought and obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court.

On January 24th, 2026, Chalong police coordinated with local authorities in Pattani to apprehend the suspect in his hometown. He was charged with “snatching property using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or escape arrest.”

Authorities confirmed that the stolen phone was recovered and returned to the tourist.
Police stated that swift action was necessary to protect Phuket’s reputation as a safe destination for international visitors.
