Phuket –
Phuket International Airport has stepped up its health screening measures in response to the recent outbreak of Nipah virus in West Bengal, India, reinforcing its commitment to passenger safety and public health.
Working in close coordination with the International Communicable Disease Control checkpoint, the airport has introduced proactive screening procedures for travelers arriving from affected areas. This is to detect potential cases early and prevent the spread of the virus within Thailand.
Currently, Phuket International Airport operates direct flights from West Bengal through a single airline, with five flights per week. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and conducting ongoing risk assessments to ensure timely and effective responses.
To strengthen public health safeguards, the airport has increased the frequency of cleaning in passenger terminals, particularly at high-touch surfaces, and enhanced collaboration with disease control officials stationed at the airport. These measures are designed to provide reassurance to passengers, staff, and service users that their health and safety remain the airport’s top priority.
Airport management explained that all operations will strictly follow guidelines issued by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health. Should national authorities escalate disease control measures, Phuket International Airport stands ready to implement them without delay.
“We are fully committed to safeguarding health in every dimension, ensuring that travel through Phuket International Airport remains safe and meets the highest standards,” the airport announced in a statement.
