Phuket Authorities Intensify Crackdown on Tax-Evading Cigarettes

Provincial officials in Phuket have stepped up enforcement against the illegal cigarette trade, conducting a targeted raid that resulted in the arrest of one shop operator and the seizure of untaxed tobacco products.

Officers told the Phuket Express on Thursday (January 22nd) that a special administrative task force executed a search warrant at a retail outlet in Moo 1, Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. One shop was found selling untaxed cigarettes.

The caretaker of the shop was taken into custody. Authorities confiscated 86 packs of contraband cigarettes (1,710 sticks) across multiple brands. Evidence and suspects were handed over to Wichit Police Station for prosecution under Thai law.
