Phuket Tightens Traffic Enforcement on Tourist Rental Vehicles

PHUKET –

Phuket authorities are stepping up enforcement of traffic laws in response to national policy, with a particular focus on rental vehicles used by foreign tourists. Governor Nirat Phongsitthithavorn has ordered a crackdown on illegal driving behavior, improper licensing, and violations by rental vehicle operators across the province.

Key measures include establishing checkpoints to inspect rental vehicles and verify that foreign drivers hold valid licenses or international driving permits. Operators found to be in violation of regulations will face immediate legal action. Law enforcement officials have been instructed to apply the rules strictly, with no exceptions and no leniency.

The operation involves coordinated efforts from police, transport authorities, and local administrative bodies. The move comes amid growing concern over road safety on the island, as tourist numbers continue to rise.

Authorities have stated that enforcement will continue with full seriousness to maintain order and protect both residents and visitors.
