Phuket Successfully Tests Nationwide Cell Broadcast Emergency Alert System

Phuket –

Phuket has confirmed the success of a nationwide test of Thailand’s Cell Broadcast emergency alert system, with signals received simultaneously and clearly across all mobile networks both on land and at sea.

The test, conducted on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, was chaired by Mr. Teerapong Chuaychu, Deputy Governor of Phuket, at the Chao Fah Conference Room in the Provincial Hall. The exercise was connected in real time to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, ensuring coordination at the national level.

During the test, participants across Phuket reported receiving the emergency alert tone on their mobile phones at the same moment, demonstrating the system’s ability to rapidly disseminate warnings to the public. The Maritime Enforcement Command Center Region 3 (Thai Navy) also confirmed that seafarers and maritime operators in Phuket waters received the alerts without issue, showing off the system’s effectiveness in covering both land and sea.

Deputy Governor Teerapong said that the successful test represents a major step forward in strengthening Phuket’s emergency communication readiness. “This system ensures that residents and tourists alike receive accurate and timely information during crises,” he said, adding that the results will be used to identify areas for further improvement to make the system even more comprehensive.

Phuket Province will compile and report the findings along with relevant agencies and mobile network operators. The goal is to enhance the Cell Broadcast system to its highest efficiency, ensuring preparedness for future emergencies and reinforcing confidence in Phuket’s safety standards for both locals and international visitors.
