Russian Fugitive Wanted by Interpol for Construction Fraud Arrested in Phuket

Phuket –
Immigration officers in Phuket have arrested a Russian national wanted under an Interpol warrant for orchestrating fraudulent construction bids and defrauding victims of more than 100 million baht.

The arrest took place around 3:30 p.m. under the direction of Pol. Col. Khemchat Wattananapaksem, Superintendent of Phuket Immigration. The operation was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wisarut La-iad-ong, Deputy Superintendent, and Pol. Capt. Adisorn Boonchum, Immigration Inspector, together with an investigative team.

Authorities had been alerted by Thailand’s Department of Foreign Affairs that the suspect was hiding in Phuket after being implicated in a scheme involving bid rigging and fraudulent construction projects. Following surveillance in Phuket’s city area, officers identified the suspect and moved in to make the arrest. Immigration police presented the Interpol warrant, revoked his visa, and initiated deportation procedures so he can face prosecution in his home country.
