Steel Beam Falls From Luxury Condo Construction, Pierces Home in Phuket

Phuket, Thailand —

A family living near Surin Beach narrowly escaped tragedy after a massive steel beam fell from a crane at a luxury condominium construction site and crashed through the roof of their home overnight.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. earlier this week in Cherng Talay, where the homeowner, a local woman, captured video footage showing the beam lodged inside her house. She described the terrifying moment, noting that her young relatives often sit in the very spot where the beam landed. “It was enormous. The whole house shook. Normally my nephew would be right here. This is not okay at all,” she said in the clip, which quickly spread across social media.

Online reactions were swift, with many criticizing the project’s safety standards and questioning who would take responsibility if lives had been lost. Comments ranged from concerns about the growing risks of urban development to calls for independent engineers to assess the damage rather than relying on the developer’s personnel. Others pointed out the rising number of crane-related accidents in Thailand in recent months.

Police at Cherng Talay station confirmed that the homeowner filed a formal complaint. Officers inspected the site and met with representatives of the condominium project. However, negotiations stalled as parties within the development reportedly deflected responsibility. As of press time, the steel beam remains lodged in the house, with no repairs or compensation offered.

The family, which includes small children and a bedridden patient, continues to live in fear of another accident. “We don’t know when something else might fall,” the homeowner said.
