Coordinated Bombings Target 11 Gas Stations in Thailands Southern Border Provinces

Bangkok, January 11th, 2026

Unknown assailants carried out a series of coordinated bombings and arson attacks on 11 gas stations across Thailand’s three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat late on January 10th, Thai authorities confirmed on Sunday morning.

The Special Operations Unit of the Yala Provincial Police reported that the perpetrators, whose identity, affiliation, and exact number remain unknown, struck multiple locations in a single night of violence. The attacks caused significant property damage, including fires at several sites, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.

The incidents affected the following locations:

In Yala Province (4 sites):
– A gas station in Kabang District
– A gas station in Bannang Sata District
– Bukekalae Gas Station along the Yala–Raman Road in Budi Subdistrict, Mueang District
– A gas station on Highway 418 (Pattani–Yala), inbound to Yala city, in Tha Sap Subdistrict, Mueang Yala District

In Narathiwat Province (5 sites):
– A gas station in Village No. 4, Ban Khok, Chuap Subdistrict, Cho-airong District
– A gas station in Dusongyo Subdistrict, Chanae District
– A gas station in Ra-ngae District
– A gas station in Waeng District
– A gas station in Su-ngai Kolok District

In Pattani Province (2 sites):
– A gas station in Mueang District
– A gas station in Kapho District

Security forces responded swiftly, sealing off the affected areas to ensure public safety and prevent further incidents. Forensic teams have been dispatched to examine the sites, collect evidence, and determine the precise nature of the explosives used. Authorities have also heightened security measures across nearby districts as investigations continue.

The attacks come amid the long-running insurgency in Thailand’s predominantly Muslim southern border region, where separatist groups have carried out sporadic bombings, arson, and other violence for more than two decades. The provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat have been the epicenter of the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives since escalating in 2004.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Saturday’s bombings, which mark one of the more significant coordinated strikes on commercial infrastructure in recent years.

Local officials urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, while stating that the situation is under control. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
