Phuket –
Phuket recorded the highest number of road accidents and injuries nationwide during the New Year holiday period in three days (December 30th, 2025 to January 1st, 2026).
Between December 30th, 2025, and January 1st, 2026, the province reported 34 accidents, leaving 38 people injured and 4 dead, according to official figures.
Authorities highlighted speeding, failure to wear helmets, and drunk driving as the leading risk behaviors. Motorcycles were the vehicles most frequently involved in crashes.
Severe Cases Reported
• In Chalong, Mueang District, a motorcycle collision claimed one life and injured three others.
• In Thalang District, a motorcycle rider veered off the road and struck a kilometer marker, killing two riders.
Investigations revealed that riding without helmets, driving without licenses, and alcohol consumption before riding were critical contributing factors.
Safety Concerns
Officials stressed the urgent need for stricter enforcement and public awareness campaigns to curb risky behaviors, particularly among motorcycle riders, who remain the most vulnerable group on Phuket’s roads.
The alarming figures have reignited calls for stronger community engagement and sustained safety measures to protect both residents and visitors during peak travel seasons.
