Patong,–
As the New Year approaches, Patong Municipality has issued a strong reminder to residents and visitors: fireworks and floating lanterns are strictly prohibited unless official permission has been granted.
The Patong Municipality told the Phuket Express that the announcement, made this week ahead of the year-end celebrations, is for public safety and community responsibility. Authorities warn that unauthorized use or sale of fireworks and sky lanterns poses significant risks, including fire hazards, injuries, and disruption to local communities.
Violators face severe penalties under Thai law. Offenses are punishable by imprisonment for up to three years, fines of up to 60,000 Baht, or both.
Municipal officials stressed that the ban is not intended to dampen festivities but to ensure that celebrations remain safe and enjoyable for everyone. Patong, one of Phuket’s busiest tourist hubs, expects large crowds during the holiday season, making safety precautions especially critical.
Residents and tourists are encouraged to join in the celebrations through organized events and activities approved by local authorities. By adhering to the regulations, the community can welcome the New Year in a spirit of joy and safety.
