Phuket Authorities Suspend Van Driver’s License After Assault on Tourist at Airport

Authorities have taken decisive action against a van driver who assaulted a tourist at Phuket International Airport after becoming upset that the passenger left trash inside the vehicle.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that on December 19th, Tourist Police, Sakhu Police Station, the Phuket Provincial Transport Office, and officials from Phuket International Airport coordinated to investigate the incident. The driver, identified only as Mr. Rattawit, admitted to attacking the tourist.

Phuket International Airport filed a formal complaint against the driver for assault. Investigators charged him with physically attacking another person. The Phuket Provincial Transport Office fined the driver 1,000 baht for failing to wear the proper uniform while on duty, in violation of Ministry Regulation Section 102. His driving license has also been suspended for 180 days under Section 109.

Officials stated that swift enforcement demonstrates Phuket’s commitment to protecting visitors and maintaining public confidence in local transport services. The case shows ongoing efforts to ensure that drivers serving tourists adhere to both safety and professional standards.
