Phuket –
Police in Phuket have arrested a 54‑year‑old man accused of beating his wife to death during a drunken argument at their rented room in Rassada.
The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified from a hospital in Rassada that a woman had died shortly after being brought into the emergency department with extensive injuries consistent with assault.
Investigators arrived at the hospital and identified the victim as a 51‑year‑old woman, referred to only as Mrs. Kai. Her body showed multiple severe bruises.
Officers then proceeded to the couple’s residence in Soi Kingkaew 9, where they found her husband, Mr. Nuek, still inside the room and reportedly intoxicated. He was detained on the spot. A broom believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the bedroom and seized as evidence.
During initial questioning, the suspect admitted that he and his wife had been drinking together on the night of 16 December when an argument escalated. He confessed to striking her repeatedly with the broom handle before going to sleep. The following morning, he found her unresponsive and called the 1669 emergency hotline to request medical assistance. He then left for work, later returning to find police waiting to arrest him.
Neighbors told officers the couple frequently drank together and often fought, with the wife occasionally seeking help from nearby residents. They believe the violence escalated more severely this time, resulting in her death.
Police are continuing to gather evidence and are preparing to charge the suspect with assault causing death.
