Thalang –
Authorities in Thalang District have launched a coordinated crackdown on beach encroachment at Surin Beach, arresting five individuals for illegally placing sunbeds, umbrellas, and selling goods on public land. The operation took place on 15 December 2025 between 10:00 and 14:00, under the direction of Phuket Governor Nirut Phongsitthithawon and Deputy Governor Theeraphong Chuaychu.
The enforcement team was led by Thalang District Chief Siwatch Rawangkul, supported by Wisut Romin, Chief of Administrative Affairs, district security officers, volunteer defense corps members, village headmen, assistant village headmen, community health volunteers, and local security units. Officers from Cherng Talay Police Station, Cherng Talay Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO), municipal inspectors, and the Forest Protection Unit (Phuket 1 – Thalang) also joined the operation.

Officials apprehended five offenders who had occupied sections of Surin Beach by setting up sunbeds and umbrellas and conducting unauthorized commercial activities. The Cherng Talay SAO has been assigned to file formal complaints with investigators at Cherng Talay Police Station to pursue legal action.

To prevent further encroachment, Thalang District will implement an integrated monitoring system beginning 16 December. Volunteer defense corps members will work alongside municipal officers, village leaders, and local security teams to maintain order and ensure that no individuals or groups illegally claim beach areas for private business use.
Authorities told The Phuket Express that the measures will remain in place until a long-term, sustainable solution is established to address recurring conflicts related to sunbed operations at Surin Beach.
