Phuket –
A van was destroyed by a fire in Thalang. No injuries were reported.
In the early morning on Wednesday (December 10th), police investigator Pol. Lt. Atth Phayayam of Thalang Police Station coordinated with Pol. Col. Nikorn Chuthong, the station chief, and requested two fire trucks from Si Sunthon Municipality to respond.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a black Volkswagen van, license plate HY-830 Phuket, engulfed in flames. It took more than 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The van was later towed to Thalang Police Station for further examination.
The owner, Mr. Phan, 50, told police he was driving home from Phuket Town toward the Thalang intersection when he noticed a burning smell inside the vehicle. After stopping to check, he saw smoke billowing from the engine compartment before flames spread rapidly. Local residents attempted to extinguish the fire with portable extinguishers but were unsuccessful, prompting the call for emergency assistance.
Mr. Phan revealed that the van had been in use for about 19 years since 2006, had been modified to run on gas, and was not covered by insurance.
Police have secured the vehicle and will await forensic experts from Phuket to determine the exact cause of the fire.
