Second Army Region Gives Evening Update on Thai-Cambodian Border Tensions

The Second Army Region of the Royal Thai Army issued an update on the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, stating that Cambodian forces have escalated to the highest level of combat preparedness following recent clashes.

According to a summary released by the Second Army Region’s operations center at 11:00 p.m. on December 7th, Cambodian troops are maintaining full combat readiness across the entire border line, prompted by an armed confrontation earlier that day at Phu Pha Lek and Phan Hin Paet Kon in Sisaket Province. The incident involved Thai troops from the 13th Infantry Regiment clashing with Cambodian forces using small arms fire, resulting in two Thai soldiers sustaining injuries, one shot in the leg and the other wounded, possibly by sniper fire. Both were evacuated for treatment at hospitals in Surin and Sisaket provinces.

Cambodian activities include constructing additional bunkers, reinforcing strongpoints, searching for unexploded ordnance, stockpiling ammunition in concealed locations, restricting mobile phone use, and preparing to receive senior commanders for wartime operations. Troops are also closely monitoring Thai movements, particularly the use of tanks, drones, and road construction near the frontier.

In the area opposite Kantharalak District in Sisaket Province, Cambodian commanders have ordered all frontline personnel to cease internet access and photography during duties, while cleaning weapons, bunkers, and bases in anticipation of higher-level inspections.

Further developments include Cambodian forces relocating multiple-launch rocket systems (RM-70) closer to the border in Chom Krasan District, Preah Vihear Province, and evacuating civilians from frontline areas. At 8:00 p.m., Cambodian troops fired approximately 10 rounds of small arms fire toward Thai positions at Phu Pha Lek in Sisaket and Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani Province, with no Thai casualties reported.

Cambodian reports claim they downed one Thai drone, and they plan to mobilize additional personnel to frontline units on December 9-10.

The Second Army Region affirmed that Thai forces remain on high alert, adhering strictly to rules of engagement, and are prepared to respond as needed to protect national sovereignty and civilian safety.
