Royal Thai Army Reports Escalating Military Movements Along Cambodia Border

BURIRAM, Thailand – December 8th, 2025 (05:00 local time)
The 2nd Army Region Operations Center has issued an urgent situation report on the Thai–Cambodian border, stating that Cambodian forces initiated gunfire against Thai positions overnight and have since undertaken significant military build-ups across multiple sectors.

According to the official statement released at 05:00 on 8 December 2025, the following developments were observed:

– At 22:00 on 7 December, Cambodian T-55 tanks were detected moving into the Krong Samraong area of Oddar Meancheay Province near the Chhong Kach and Chhong Rayei border passes. Simultaneous civilian evacuations from Cambodian villages along the frontier were reported.

– By 23:00, Cambodian troops were placed on maximum combat readiness following earlier clashes at Phlayan Hin Pad Khaek (Eight-Stone Plateau). Forces were observed constructing additional fortifications, reinforcing existing positions, searching for unexploded ordnance, moving ammunition into bunkers, shutting down mobile phones, and preparing to receive senior commanders. Cambodian units maintained close surveillance of Thai activities, particularly the movement of Thai tanks, drones, and road construction near forward positions.

– At midnight, RM-70 multiple rocket launchers were seen entering the Chom Ksan area of Preah Vihear Province near the Chhong Bok and Chhong Anma passes, again accompanied by civilian evacuations.

– At 01:00, BM-21 Grad and Type-90B multiple rocket launchers were detected moving into the Krong Samraong sector near the Chhong Chom and Chhong Samet passes, with continued civilian withdrawal from border areas.

– At 03:25, Cambodian artillery units were observed designating firing coordinates targeting two Thai villages: Ban Kachai Noi in Prasat sub-district, Ban Dan district (approximately 13 km from Buriram Airport) and Ban Charuk Khwae in Khok Yang sub-district, Prasat district, Surin Province (31 km from the border).

The 2nd Army Region stated that it is closely monitoring the situation, has raised alert levels, and is employing all necessary measures to protect Thai citizens and national sovereignty.

Authorities urged the public to rely solely on official sources for information and reaffirmed that the 2nd Army Region remains fully committed to safeguarding border security with vigilance, resolve, and utmost care to preserve peace and national stability.
