Her Royal Majesty The Queen Leads Team Vayu to Top of the Table at Phuket King’s Cup Regatta

Phuket –

Her Royal Majesty the Queen demonstrated remarkable skill and perseverance as she helmed Team Vayu to first place in the standings at the 37th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, one of Asia’s most prestigious sailing competitions.

On the second day of racing at Karon Beach, Phuket, Team Vayu (sail number THA 72) competed in the IRC Zero class, completing the third and fourth scoring races. Her Royal Majesty took on the demanding role of helmsman, expertly calculating shifting wind and sea conditions to steer the vessel with precision. The helm, a critical component in navigation and control, proved decisive in guiding the team through challenging waves and unpredictable weather.

Despite the demanding conditions, HRM the Queen inspired her teammates with determination and encouragement, helping them overcome obstacles at sea. Sailing requires wind speeds of at least five knots to propel vessels effectively, and Team Vayu capitalized on every opportunity to maintain speed and direction.

After four races, Team Vayu emerged at the top of the leaderboard, recording the lowest penalty points among competitors. The result underscored not only HRM The Queen’s seamanship but also her resilience and leadership on the water.

The 37th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, held from November 29 to December 6, features 120 boats and 365 sailors from more than ten countries, including Australia, Japan, Sweden, Belgium, China, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, and France. The fleet comprises 76 dinghies, 14 S/V boats, six vessels for disabled sailors, and 38 keelboats. The regatta, contested for His Royal Majesty the King’s Royal Trophy, continues to highlight Phuket’s role as a global sailing destination.
