Songkhla —
A passenger bus carrying 44 people skidded off the Asian Highway late Wednesday night, overturning into a roadside median amid ongoing road construction. Remarkably, all passengers escaped unharmed.
The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on November 20 in Khlong Pia, Chana, where resurfacing work had left sections of the road stripped down to the soil. The bus, operated by Srithai Tour on the Sungai Kolok–Phuket route, was found lying on its side with damage to its roof. Passengers were seen waiting safely by the roadside, with no injuries reported.

Second driver Santiya Intaro, 35, explained that continuous rainfall had made the road slippery. Combined with the exposed surface, the bus’s front wheel lost traction, causing it to veer off course, clip a large traffic sign, and slide into the median. He said he deliberately avoided steering sharply back onto the road to prevent a rollover that could have endangered passengers.
Police and related agencies assisted passengers in continuing their journey and pledged to coordinate with the bus company for follow-up measures. Authorities also vowed to tighten safety checks at construction zones to prevent similar accidents.
