Southern Thailand Grapples with Severe Flooding

November 20th, 2025

Southern Thailand is facing widespread flooding as relentless rainfall continues to batter the region, driven by a strengthening northeast monsoon system.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has reported that heavy and prolonged rains have inundated multiple provinces, with strong winds and rough seas compounding the crisis across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman coast.

Since November 17th, floodwaters have affected:

  • Five provinces: Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Satun, and Phatthalung
  • Eight districts, 34 subdistricts, and 184 villages
  • Over 25,000 residents from 5,927 households

Currently, flood conditions remain critical in Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Phatthalung, where emergency response operations are ongoing.

DDPM Director-General Theerapat Kachamat confirmed that disaster response units from the regional center in Surat Thani have been mobilized. Equipment includes:

  • High-clearance rescue vehicles
  • Motorboats and mobile water pumps
  • Hydraulic pumping systems
  • Long-range water pump trucks

These resources are being used to evacuate residents, drain floodwaters, assess damage, and install warning signs in high-risk zones. Local agencies are coordinating efforts to restore access and mitigate public hardship.

At 4:01 AM today, the National Disaster Warning Center issued Cell Broadcast alerts to residents in flood-prone areas, warning of heavy rainfall and potential flash floods and landslides.

Rainfall alerts were issued for:

  • Phatthalung: Mueang, Pak Phayun, Khuan Khanun
  • Nakhon Si Thammarat: Mueang, Phrom Khiri, Sichon, Ron Phibun, Lan Saka, Cha-uat, Tha Sala
  • Songkhla: Mueang, Rattaphum, Hat Yai, Chana, Saba Yoi, Thepha, Na Mom, Singhanakhon, Sadao, Na Thawi, Ranot, Sathing Phra, Krasae Sin
  • Satun: Manang, Khuan Don, Khuan Kalong, Tha Phae, La-ngu
  • Trang: Nayong, Yan Ta Khao, Palian

Flood warnings were issued for Phatthalung’s Mueang, Pa Bon, Kong Ra, Srinakarin, and Pak Phayun districts.

The DDPM continues to monitor weather patterns and coordinate with local agencies to provide timely assistance and updates.
