Phuket –
A public electric bus operating on the Phuket Airport–Rawai route lost engine power while ascending a steep incline near the Tom Yum Kung intersection on Kok Tanod–Rawai Road, resulting in a dramatic rollback collision that damaged multiple vehicles and a massage shop.
The Karon Police told the Phuket Express that the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when the EV bus, carrying two female tourists, suddenly lost propulsion while climbing the hill. The vehicle rolled backward uncontrollably, striking a parked car before crashing into another vehicle stationed in front of a commercial unit housing a massage parlor. The force of the impact caused the bus to breach the building’s facade, damaging both the vehicle and property inside.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The two passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Chalong Hospital for further evaluation.
Investigators from Karon Police Station conducted an initial assessment at the site and interviewed witnesses. Authorities are now examining the bus’s propulsion system to determine the cause of the malfunction and will proceed with legal and regulatory actions as appropriate.
