Phuket-
Heavy rainfall swept across Phuket early Monday morning (October 20th), triggering flash floods and traffic disruptions in multiple areas across the island province. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid inundated routes as drainage efforts continue amid high tide conditions.
The downpour, which began before dawn, caused significant waterlogging in parts of Mueang Phuket District, including the area in front of Wichit Songkram School near the Central Phuket underpass, and the Kata neighborhood. Patong and Kathu districts were among the hardest hit, with several intersections rendered impassable.
According to traffic updates from Patong Police Station, the following locations are experiencing flood-related disruptions:
- Patong Hospital Intersection: Flooded but passable for larger vehicles
- Patong Hill Junction: Impassable for small cars due to deep water
- In front of Patong Police Station: Waterlogged, awaiting drainage
- Sai Nam Yen–Na Nai Intersection: Flooded, drainage underway
- Patong Fire Station Intersection: Flooded, water removal in progress
- Kathu–Lotus Samkong Road and Soi Nirut, Kamala Subdistrict: Flooding reported
Meanwhile, Thalang District has not reported any flooding as of this morning.
Officials noted that high sea levels are slowing the drainage process, prolonging water retention in low-lying areas. Traffic police across all affected jurisdictions are actively managing the situation, issuing warnings and rerouting vehicles to minimize congestion and reduce accident risks on slippery, submerged roads.
Local government agencies are working around the clock to accelerate water removal and monitor conditions closely. Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated through official channels and exercise caution when navigating flood-prone zones.
