Phuket —
A dramatic rescue unfolded off Kata Beach on October 16 when a parasailing boat capsized during a sudden storm, prompting a teenage parasailing guide to risk his life to save a tourist.
The incident occurred around 3:00 PM amid heavy rain and strong winds that swept across the Andaman coast. A tourist was airborne on a parasail with a young guide when the towing vessel lost control and overturned in the rough sea.
In a split-second decision, the guide unbuckled his safety harness and deliberately dropped into the ocean to reduce the parasail’s weight, allowing the tourist to glide closer to shore. The maneuver enabled a safer descent and prevented the tourist from being stranded mid-air or dragged into deeper waters.
Local rescue teams responded swiftly. The tourist was found with chest discomfort, while the guide sustained minor facial injuries. Both were transported to Chalong Hospital for medical evaluation and are now in stable condition under medical supervision.
Authorities praised the guide’s quick thinking and bravery, noting that his actions likely prevented a more serious outcome. The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter safety protocols during water sports activities, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
