PHUKET —
A late-night blaze severely damaged a luxury residence in Kathu on October 16th, with estimated losses reaching in the tens of millions of baht. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Kathu Firefighters told the Phuket Express that rhe fire broke out around 11:45 PM at a two-story detached home located in Soi 8 of the Anuphas Golf Ville housing estate. Local police and emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call via the Phuket Provincial 191 emergency hotline.
Police and fire crews from Kathu Municipality were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found the home engulfed in flames, particularly on the second floor. Firefighters worked swiftly to contain the blaze, successfully extinguishing it before it could spread to neighboring properties.
According to preliminary reports, three people were inside the home at the time: a Thai woman, her foreign husband, and her sister. All managed to escape unharmed after hearing what sounded like an electrical explosion followed by smoke emerging from the second-floor bedroom.
Investigators suspect the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. The affected area has been cordoned off pending a full forensic examination.
Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage, which includes structural loss and high-value property destruction. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of electrical safety and emergency preparedness in residential zones.
