Phuket –

A man believed to be between 30 and 35 years old was found dead in the waters near Mudong Canal, close to a beach in Wichit, following a disturbing incident that left local residents and tourists shaken.

The Wichit Police told the Phuket Express that at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday (October 15th), witnesses reported seeing an unidentified man exhibiting erratic behavior—shouting loudly and wading through the canal that connects to the sea. The man, who had approached from the direction of Chalong, appeared disoriented and possibly intoxicated. Moments later, his voice fell silent, prompting fears that he may have drowned.

Local authorities were alerted by the village headman who contacted Wichit Police Station. Police along with municipal rescue personnel rushed to the scene, to investigate.

Upon arrival, responders discovered the man’s body floating in the sea near the beach. Residents assisted in bringing the body ashore. The deceased was found wearing only black shorts, with no shirt or identification. He showed no signs of physical trauma, but had foam around his mouth—raising concerns of possible substance involvement.

Initial assessments suggest drowning as the cause of death. The body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for autopsy and toxicology screening to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Authorities are working to identify the man and locate his relatives for religious rites and funeral arrangements.
