Bangkok, October 15th, 2025 – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for widespread heavy rainfall across the country starting today October 15th, with 58 provinces in five of Thailand’s six major regions expected to be directly impacted. Authorities are urging residents to brace for potential flash floods, landslides, and other hazards as the monsoon season lingers into mid-October.
According to the TMD’s latest seven-day forecast, released earlier, a surge in moisture from the southwest monsoon combined with a low-pressure cell over the upper northern region will trigger intense thunderstorms and downpours. The northern, central, eastern, northeastern, and southern regions are all projected to see elevated rain risks, while the western extremities of the south may experience slightly less intensity.
In the capital, Bangkok and its surrounding metropolitan areas are slated for particularly severe conditions, with a 70% probability of scattered to widespread rain throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to hover between 24°C and 32°C, but the relentless showers could lead to urban flooding in low-lying districts, echoing recent deluges that have strained the city’s drainage systems.

The TMD has pinpointed 58 provinces for the heaviest hits, though a full list was not immediately detailed in the advisory. Among the most vulnerable are key areas in the north like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai; central hubs including Nakhon Sawan and Ayutthaya; eastern spots such as Chon Buri and Rayong; Isan provinces like Khon Kaen and Udon Thani; and southern locales including Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Residents in these zones should prepare for isolated heavy downpours exceeding 50 millimeters in just a few hours, raising the specter of localized flooding and travel disruptions.
“People in affected areas are advised to beware of dangers from accumulated rainwater, avoid crossing flooded roads or streams, and stay updated via official channels,” the TMD stated in its bulletin. The department also recommended that farmers secure livestock and harvest ripe crops preemptively, while travelers monitor road conditions through the Department of Highways app.

This forecast aligns with broader seasonal patterns outlined in the TMD’s October 2025 monthly outlook, which anticipates a transitional period from the rainy season to cooler weather. However, the persistence of tropical disturbances in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could prolong wet conditions through the weekend.
