Phuket –
Authorities in Phuket have seized a protected slow loris used in an illegal photo-for-cash operation targeting tourists at Kata Noi Beach. The suspect fled the scene, leaving the animal behind.
The operation was led by Mr. Chalermpong Saengdee, Member of Parliament for Phuket’s District 2, alongside Mr. Trin Thipmongkol, Deputy Mayor of Karon Municipality, municipal council members, local enforcement officers, and wildlife officials from the Khao Phra Thaeo Non-Hunting Area.
The team responded to public complaints and social media reports—which alleged that a slow loris was being exploited for tourist photos in violation of Thailand’s Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019).

Upon arrival, officials found one slow loris being used to solicit money from foreign visitors. As officers moved in to make an arrest, the individual in possession of the animal abandoned it and escaped on foot. The slow loris was confiscated as evidence and the case was referred to Karon Police Station for legal proceedings.
The animal will be transferred to the Phang Nga Wildlife Breeding Station for rehabilitation and care, with the goal of eventual release into a safe natural habitat.
Officials added that the possession or commercial use of protected wildlife is a criminal offense. They urged the public to report any such activities via the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation’s 24-hour hotline at 1362.
